Sam Santos is a multi-disciplinary artist and fashion designer based in New York City. She recently graduated from Parsons the School of Design with a BFA in Fashion Design and a minor in Photography.
Santos’s work includes fashion design, textiles, photography, painting, and digital art. Prior to showing at the Parsons 2019 Festival showcasing Thesis work, she also showed in a solo exhibition titled “Genesis” in 2016 and a group art show titled “909” in 2017.
“Azkal” was a 2018-2019 project for Santos’s senior thesis collection that focused on Philippine immigration and cultural erasure. While remaining a personal narrative on Santos’s heritage, “Azkal” was also a commentary on the importance of status and the facade of power as a tool of survival.
